1:00 PM – MD Musician’s Network Meeting
Industry professionals including David Andler (Morphius Records), Ian Jones (Sun King Records), Rob Hyman (Lens Records, former mgr of Invisible Records), Neal Conway (songwriter/DJ), and Keith Center (Figmental Records) talk with MD Musician’s Network members and others about overcoming the challenges of operating as artists in the music business in 2010
2:15 PM – Guerilla Promotion
Emily McDonough (Rabbitfoot PR) talks about the art of event promotion and networking strategies for live shows and touring. Guest speaker 12-year old guitarist/lead singer Cheska Zaide, whose band A+ Dropouts opened for Public Enemy @ Summerfest 2010, talks about how young bands are self-promoting in 2010
3:30 PM – Web Marketing for the Music Industry
Jay McCutcheon (Missionmedia.net) speaks and answers questions about artist and record label strategies for creating a web presence, managing a commerce site, and when to hire outside help, with participation from design professionals Branden Funkhouser (Morphius.com), Mic Mell (Full Self Expression), and other special guests
4:45 PM – Future of Music Coalition
Kristin Thompson (Simple Machines, Tsunami, Future of Music Coalition), heads a seminar about digital distribution models and other strategies for artists. Ari Stern (Underwater Peoples Records) discusses the financial challenges of running a vinyl+digital download label
6:00 PM – Serrato & Turntable Demonstration
Paul “The DJ” (Serrato) presents a Serrato demonstration, with guest turntablists Booman, and Club Kingz’ Rod Lee, who will also discuss urban marketing and new products.
This event is all ages.
